こんにちは、クイックUSAダラスオフィスの山岸です。テキサスはかつてメキシコの一部であったこともあり、二つの国の文化が混じった独特な雰囲気があります。メキシコ料理のおいしいお店もたくさんありますので、テキサスにいらした際には是非味わってみていただきたいです。
さて、メキシコに関する最近のニュースとしては、5月11日にトランプ政権時に導入された国境措置「タイトル42」が撤廃されました。その後、不法移民向けの新しい規則が施行され、不法入国者が急激に減少しているそうです。
また、メキシコはテキサス州にとって主要な貿易相手の一つです。米国・カナダ・メキシコの間で締結されている自由貿易協定の米国・カナダ・メキシコ協定により、自動車などの工業製品、電子製品、シェールガスなどのサプライチェーンが構築され、テキサスとメキシコの貿易額は年間2,310億ドルにもおよびます。
さらに、北米自由貿易協定（NAFTA）では、専門レベルでビジネスに一時的に関与することを目的とした資格のあるカナダおよびメキシコ国籍保有者向けの特別なビザカテゴリーを作成しました。このビザはTNビザというもので、合法的に米国で働くことができます。このTNビザを利用してメキシコとの取引がある会社や、オフィスがメキシコにあるアメリカの会社などでは、メキシコ人の方が働いていらっしゃるのを見聞きすることもあります。
メキシコ国籍をおもちの方がTNビザを申請する場合は、在メキシコ米国大使館や領事館でTNビザを申請し、面接に合格することが必要となります。申請には、例えばAccountant、Engineer、Computer System Analyst、Management Consultantなど、米国政府が決めたTNビザの専門職リストにある職種に該当する必要があります。
TNビザで米国へ入国すると1年～3年の有効なステータスが与えられるはずですが、実際は1年間有効なTNステータスしか与えられないケースが大半を占めると聞いております。TNビザについて詳しくは移民法弁護士にお尋ねいただければと思います。
